Hello !! I received a message to submit POA.So i asked to the person who opened the account for me(may be subbroker). He said yes need to courier your POA form due to lockdown you can mail your POA form to us he added one more point thats is you need to deposit Rs.1500/- .Does it really need to deposit ?

    1. Trade Smart Online

      Hello Kumar,
We understand your concern with respect to paying Rs.1500. As per the SEBI regulation, clients are required to submit POA physical copy. Considering the present lockdown situation, we are accepting online POA with security deposit of Rs.1500. This deposit is just to make sure we get the physical copy of POA later. Once we receive, physical copy, your amount of Rs.1500 shall be reversed to your trading account. We appreciate your understanding on this part.

Is it possible to do positional option selling (not intraday ) without POA, for example is sell option on friday for next weekly expiry and adjust the position on monday, tuesday and square off on wednesday/expiry day.

    1. Trade Smart Online

      Hi Pradeep,
POA is required for NSE Cash and BSE Cash segments only. You may still continue trading in futures and options segments without POA.

    1. Trade Smart Online

      Hello Usha,
POA is required for brokers to remove shares from your demat account and give the shares to exchange when you sell the shares. POA is mandatory for equity trading. Currently, POA has to be sent through courier. Soft copy is not accepted.

I asked about the chances of POA ever getting misused by company or individual broker since we signed the POA with blank witness and holders names…just in case

    1. Trade Smart Online

      Hello Kamlesh,
Brokers do not have the rights to use POA other than cases mentioned in the above article. If you found any such instances, you may inform the regulators.

    1. Trade Smart Online

      Hello Ganesh,
As per the SEBI regulations, whenever you sell the shares we as a broker has to debit the shares from your demat account and give the shares to exchange. Brokers can only debit shares if they have POA signed by client. Hence, POA is mandatory for selling of shares.
